Homework 6

In this blend file, I have added additional objects like trees and ramps. There is another obstacle which keeps on moving from side to side. This blend file demonstrates collision between two moving objects, ability to delete or add an object from the scene.Game controls are mentioned in the readme text file in the link provided below.

As I have mentioned in my previous posts that the main character have to find a way out of the island and escape on the boat while tackling against the obstacles, these objects used in the blend file would therefore be apt for our storyline. Also, there are a few boxes which disappears when the boat collides with it. These boxes are like collectables in the water body which will give you points / weapons or any useful item. Ramps helps you to overcome the obstacles and helps you reach the end faster.

Homework 5

Objects added - Boxes, Rocks and Poles

I have made a small game in which the player needs to navigate the boat to the finish line without colliding with the rocks or boxes. The fun element in this game is to avoid being hit by the rocks and the box since pressing Space-bar and Left Shift will make few of the rocks move either towards you or away from you.

We can add more elements in this game like a ramp so that the boat could jump from it and avoid various obstacles. Also, I would like to add a countdown timer so that it becomes more challenging.

Homework 4

Experience is the most crucial part of game play which makes the game worth playing. There are a few kinds of experience that I want the players playing our game should feel. It includes: Surprise, fear, betrayal, anger/frustration, excitement and triumph.

These experiences could be experienced by our player in many forms but I am going to list a few of them. Since the game plot is based in an abandoned city which is overrun by vegetation and animals, attacks by various animals out of nowhere could bring in the element of surprise. Due to ferocious animals and surviving in an abandoned city on an island without any aid will give an element of fear in the game.

There could be a situation in the beginning of the game that the character comes for a purpose to this island with another person, however, there arises a situation where the main character of our game is stuck (under debris of a building or in a pit) and need the help of the other person to get out of that situation but the other guy betrays and leaves him. Since the player needs to survive and have to collect first aid from the pharmacy in order to heal himself if he is wounded or is infected, blocked doors or windows which could prevent him from entering the pharmacy building could lead to frustrations/anger.

Excitement can come by collecting special hidden items which could help them for surviving and getting out of the situation. Since the player has to leave the island by surviving against the odds so as to complete the game will that will give him triumph/accomplished feeling.

Surprises in the game comes from the fact that the main character would be attacked by animals coming out of no where/ sneaking from behind. Betrayal is another form of a surprise to the player since it will be unexpected. Another in game hidden objects could surprise the player which will be very useful for escape from the situation in which the player would be at that particular time.

Since the player have the ability to drive any abandoned car and can roam across the island would bring in some fun element to the game. Also, they can use the car to break selected locked or blocked doors of a building which they want to access. Ability to shoot down most of the things in the game with weapons. The player can kill animals and light up fire and can roast the animal on that, if it's raw or uncooked it could deteriorate his health.

The elements of this game and our expectations what the players is suppossed to do is to survive on an abandoned island tackling thorough various objects, animals, finding food/shelter, getting medical aid by breaking in into the medical stores, complete objectives of this game and finding a way to escape the island.

Last week I started looking out for more objects which might be helpful and relevant to our game.I downloaded rocks, boxes so that I can create some obstacles when a player navigate in the river. Moreover, I implemented the parenting techniques which was taught in the class and thus was able to parent a camera around the object so that we can get a third person's view. I also started watching the video tutorials of Blender so that I am able to take the advantage of the tools which I am not aware of.

Homework 2

1) When and where did you meet?
Me and my teammates met on Friday (5th September, 2014) in the classroom and on Tuesday (9th September, 2014) in the Majors Lab.

2) What did you discuss?
We discussed about the game ideas, what will be the genre of our game, what will be the plot, what kinds of characters to include in the game and how can the game be fun and interesting to the player.

3) Did you take notes? Why? Why not?
Yes we took the notes as it would be easier to remember the ideas that were discussed during our conversation.

4) Did you transfer the contents of the discuss to the computer?
No, we haven't transferred the contents of our discussion to the computer yet but we will be shortly putting up notes on Google Drive so that all of can contribute the ideas and share them at the same time.

5) Did you discuss the game document?
No, we didn't discuss about the game document since this meeting was solely set up to discuss what all to include in our game and give it an initial start.

6) Did you pick a team leader. Why? Who is it?
We haven't picked up a team leader but most probably it will be Ashleigh Davis.

7) Please describe briefly some initial ideas regarding the game you plan on developing.
Initially we planned to develop a horror simulation game where a character needs to go through a maze in a haunted house tackling against different kinds of creatures and obstacles. Then we thought of making a third person action adventure survival game where a character needs to survive against the odds in an abandoned city on an island/plains. Finding shelter, food, completing objectives and getting medical aid, etc are a part of the game play experience which we discussed.  We are still figuring out the objective of the character and how the character gets into this kind of situation.

8) State on your blog the contributions you, the individual, made towards the team game in the last week.
I along with my team members brainstormed about the game concepts and ideas. I had this idea of developing an action adventure game in an abandoned city on an island where a player needs to survive against the odds. The obstacles in the game will be ferocious animals, natural calamities in the form of thunderstorms, floods, earthquakes and falling trees.
